This week marks the official beginning of my marathon training program. Cara and I are running Grandma's in Duluth, MN on June 21. I'm adapting, as I always do, an eighteen week program from Hal Higdon. It's a good program and it's gotten me through 2 marathons before.
It was weird to think of this as the first official run, though. I had a great December and January--injury-free after my November marathon and the running was good. I generally hit 22-25 miles a week, with long runs of 9-11. Then, just when I was going to do a 14 a few weeks ago, the big winter storm hit. Then, Cara got sick. Then, I got sick. Then, the snow and ice kept coming. I managd to get in some shorter runs and did my weekly Pilates lesson, so I didn't slide totally, but more running sure would have been nice. Better running, too. I don't mind the cold, but runs like my 5 mile today sucked due to the footing. Hope, hope, hope the warmer weather this week melts the roads and sidewalks and I can run without constant attention to my footing. Also, it just wears on my legs to be constantly adjusting.
Nonetheless, it wasn't below 0, got my run in, and finished well. Looking forward to more sunshine and dry shoes!
